Administrator's Report - November 2008
Our mission is to assist each other in promoting mental health by encouragement, empowerment, education and support to maintain wellness and make healthy decisions and choices regarding our lives.
I. Clubhouse
- Peer Support Center - Leadership by Pamela, Assisted by Linda and David B.
- New Peer Counseling Class is underway.
- Pamela is working with Cynthia Miller to incorporate peer counselors with BAH Mental Health DBT class where they will talk about SHAMA and SE.
- Five provided public speaking presentaiton at AP class at SWOCC. A short SE skit was provided by Pamela, Cassidy, Jeff S, Mary and Cathy.
- Pamela's AP class took a field trip to SHAMA House for a closer look. This prompted two classmates to prepare much of our Thanksgiving meal. Thank you Casey and Amber (for turkey, vegetables, cupcakes, pies, sweet potatoes, WOW) Thanks also goes to members Geoff and Jody.
- A news story highlighting the Peer Counseling Program is preparing for release.
- Membership - The WOW factor! Supported by David and Pamela
- Members take good care of the place! Cooking and cleaning involve everyone :-)
- The Fun Raising class, inspired by Dee, will be working on Christmas decorations this month. Shells will be used to create beautiful poinsettas!
- Micheal P. is a steady assistant with Grease Lightnin, our WVO collection service. Ten customers receive prompt and professional pick-up.
- Dee S. is highlighted in a "SHAMA Success Story" included in a news insert developed by Community Action - see The World Newspaper, edition 12/6/08.
II. Supported Employment - Cathy, Mary, and Laurence
- New jobs match client goals: Sharon & Mitchell in cleaning and Diana & Janet in floral. Cassidy rings the bell again this year! Hopeful prospecting includes caregiving, fish processing, and dock labor.
- SE Review was completed October 24th. Efforts focused on SE Principles and Action Plan and have unofficially reached the fidelity benchmark.
- Job retention, networking and relationship building is a strong part of our efforts during a tight economy.
III Funding and Support
- BAH responds with $18,000 to assist with Peer Support Programs.
- Coquille Tribal grant is pending for purchase of supplies for expanding SE program.
- Zonta grant request focuses on web design software to empower women in work.
- Wood donations come forward.
- A motivational speaker offers presentation on how to use fear as a positive tool.
