Administrator's Report - November 2009

Our mission is to assist each other in promoting mental health by encouragement, empowerment, education and support to maintain wellness and make healthy decisions and choices regarding our lives.

I. Clubhouse

  • Peer Support Center - Leadership by Pamela and David B.
  1. Peer Counseling is mid-way through the course and working on listening skills.
  2. Five students have pledged commitment to the DSP class. A community resource book is being prepared by class participants for SHAMA House use.
  3. Our very own Peer Support Specialist, Pamela, is a finalist for the Hope Award :-)
  4. Pamela spoke at a SOCC psychology class about our programs: the Clubhouse, Working Wonders and Peer Counseling.
  • Membership - The WOW factor! Supported by David and Pamela
  1. SHAMA won the Hope award!!!!!
  2. Diverse classes for members are anticipated in the fall. Dee is back with the ever-popular "Fun Raisin" on fridays!
  3. Members shared in a Thanksgiving feast, cooked by...them!
  4. Wood donations help warm our fellowship.

. Supported Employment - Cathy,Cindy, Pamela and Laurence.

  1. Working Wonders begins to gear up for another fidelity review in January.An Action Plan has been designed to strive for nine more points to bring our program to an Exemplary rating.
  2. Dan and Stan get jobs at McKays. Cassidy and Jeff ring the bell for Salvation Army's strong cause.
  3. Supported Employment is incorporating peer support to strengthen the program and utilize our valuable peers.
  4. Joe passed his certification to operate the Charleston bridge.
  5. The Bandon newspaper featured the Hope Awards and acknowledged the SHAMA House.
  6. Future employment celebrations will be quarterly and may be off premise to incorporate an outing . Participants who have worked and are working will be celebrated at these events and receive a certificate.
  7. Referrals continue at a steady pace - we are at capacity both with OHP and Non-OHP clients.
  8. We are currently screening for an additional employment specialist to join our team.
  9. Transportation costs are rising.
  10. Statistics hold for in a tough economy - 21 out of 40 are employed in competitive community jobs during this 4th quarter.

III Education and Funding

  1. Cathy attended a Ticket to Work Summit to learn about the restructing of this SS program. In January, we will have the opportunity to partner with Voc Rehab by signing a memorandum made possible by DHS for SE providers. VR will continue as the administrator for ticket holders yet share the some of the proceeds received by SS.This will allow us to be paid 75% for delivery of phase 2 .
  2. We will be working with Epuerto to redesign our website.
  3. Our VR contract is effective November 2009. This enables us to be paid for employment outcomes that are currently contributing to VR benchmarks.
  4. Working Wonders will produce a finished brochure by January 2010. We are seeking a sponsor.
  5. Working Wonders has been nominated for a Dartmouth Award and may be the site for a future research project.
  6. Cathy has been invited to be part of a nationwide research project for Dartmouth, gathering data about hiring individuals with criminal backgrounds. The outcomes will be used to assist employment specialists in working against this strong barrier.

A heartfelt thankyou is extended by all to Jeff Friedman for his outstanding service to our assocation as a dedicated Board Member. We will miss you, Jeff.
